On October 4, the Gaoliang Tunnel on the Yan’an–Yulin High-Speed Railway was holed through, clearing a key node toward full-line completion and opening to traffic. The tunnel passes through the loess ridge-and-gully terrain of the Loess Plateau, with a total length of 3,480 m and a maximum burial depth of 150 m. The Yan’an–Yulin line is an important part of the Baotou (Yinchuan)–Haikou corridor of China’s “eight vertical and eight horizontal” high-speed rail network and, once completed, will support the economic and social development of northern Shaanxi.
