On June 17, 2024, the first unit of the Toba Hydroelectric Power Station, a backbone project of China's West to East Power Transmission, was officially put into operation. The total installed capacity of Toba Hydropower Station is 1400MW, it will provide an average of 6.23 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually. The official operation of Toba Hydropower Station plays an important role in stabilizing power supply and ensuring energy security, and is more conducive to the construction of China's new power and energy system, promoting local economic construction and social development.

The Toba Hydropower Station is located in the upper reaches of the Lancang River in Weixi County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is located in a remote and narrow area, and faces many difficulties and challenges during its construction process. Among them, the concrete aggregates of the Toba hydropower station are directly made from the the excavated materials. They are processed by the aggregate processing system, and the finished aggregates are transported directly to the mixing system by a belt, achieving no storage yard for the excavated materials and no waste discharge. This not only improves the operating efficiency of excavation but also increases the production capacity of aggregates, meeting the requirements of high-strength concrete pouring.

We have effectively implemented the policies of cost reduction, efficiency improvement, energy conservation, and environmental protection. However, due to the changes in the material of the excavated rock layers, the quality of the produced aggregates fluctuates frequently. Especially the fluctuation of the stone powder content in the fine aggregates can easily cause significant fluctuations in the performance of the concrete. In addition, the high evaporation rate of the local dry and hot valley climate and the heavy pouring task pose a serious challenge to the construction of dry and hard concrete, mainly roller compacted concrete. High requirements have been put forward for the stability, workability, and crack resistance of concrete quality in key areas.
