On November 28, 2023, the main line of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, a major national project constructed by Guangdong Transportation Group Co., Ltd. with the participation of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd., was passed through, making significant progress in the construction of the project and one step closer to its completion and opening to traffic.

Located in the core area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge realizes landings on Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Guangzhou through the connecting line.

The entire length of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is about 24 kilometers, with four lanes in each direction, with a maximum speed of 100 km/hour, which integrates “bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater intercommunication”, and it is currently the world's most difficult construction of the cross-sea cluster project.

Therein, the cross-sea section of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is 22.4 kilometers long, with a total bridge length of about 17.1 kilometers, spanning three major shipping lanes in Lingdingyang Estuary.

Among them, Lingdingyang Bridge is one of the key control constructions for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge. With a total length of 2,826 meters and the main span of 1,666 meters, it is a 3-span full floating system steel box girder suspension bridge, which is the world's largest span of fully offshore suspension bridge. The main tower of the bridge is 270 meters high, which is also the world's highest bridge in the sea.

The construction of the Lingdingyang Bridge of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is in a wide sea environment, affected by a combination of factors such as wind, waves, surges, courses and far from land, which makes it a tough challenge.

The superstructure of Lingdingyang Bridge has 213 steel box girders, with a total weight of about 56,000 tons, which is equivalent to 1.2 times the amount of steel used in Beijing Bird's Nest.

After the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Nansha Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge will become another important transportation artery for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which, upon completion, will vigorously promote the integration of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) economy and traffic integration as well as its transformation and upgrading. It is of great significance in building and perfecting the comprehensive multidimensional transport system network of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, improving the level of "hard connectivity" and "soft connectivity", and implementing the One Belt One Road Initiative. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is expected to be opened to traffic in 2024, by which time the drive from Shenzhen to Zhongshan will be reduced from 2 hours to less than 30 minutes.
